Nice recording with a solo spot from Daevid

followed by a full band piece that I don't recognise

but sounds, at least in part, improvised.

Remastered so hopefully an upgrade.

Pulled this one off the shelf and give it a light makeover.

There is hiss/amp noise noticable especially in quieter moments

but attempts at noise reduction did no favours to the music

so we'll just have to live with it.

A pivotal time for Gong as they were about to split into two branches:

Pierre Moerlen's Gong/the Steve Hillage band.

It makes for an interesting setlist which combines elements of both.

(exact date unknown. Gong played on the 18th, 20th & 21st)

 

The Sheffield recording is excellent so I only needed to smooth out

a few peaks before normalising the channels individually.

The Tabarka stuff is a vinyl rip and involved much more work.

It is all soundboard sourced but the Tunisian part is lower quality.

You shouldn't need me to tell you how cool it is

that any recording exists of Gong in Tunisia!

I hope I did it justice.

A great listen if you are into 'Flying Teapot' era Daevid Allen.

Tuppence a cup matey...

A glorious romp through Daevid Allen's trademark brand of psychedelic anarchy.

With the bonus of Steve Hilliage returning to his 70s roots as an aperitif.

Think it's audience sourced but the sound quality is fairly good.

I ripped it from my old CDs and fixed a slight drop-out in one song.

I was at the show in Manchester on the 21st and it was great fun.

The Hillage band were a little under-rehearsed at this point

but I've seen them a couple of times since and they constantly improve.

Last time was their headline spot at NOTP in Loreley.

That was really good and included Kavus Torabi on guitar and vocals

which added a lot to the overall sound.

It was a benefit show in aid of prison reform.

It's a soundboard recording.

This was around the time of Shamal

which was produced by Nick Mason

and the bulk of the set is from that album.

A transitional period.

Daevid Allen and Steve Hillage had left.

Pierre Moerlen was steering them in a more

instrumental jazz fusion direction.
