Cardiacs
Wulfron Hall
Wolverhampton, UK
December 15th 2004

Remastered audience recording.
Not the best quality I'm afraid but I did try!
What do you reckon Bambi?
A short set opening for The Wildhearts.
'Tim Speaks' takes me right back to those heady days.
He could freak a crowd out!
Ideal for DEKAdance fans I would have thought.

Cardiacs/The Sea Nymphs
BBC radio sessions
1996/1998

Good quality recordings featuring the late/great Tim Smith.
Slightly remastered.
I've had these two short performances for ages
and it struck me recently that they could well combine nicely.
When Tim Smith switches to bass (as a Sea Nymph) he is amazing.
What do you mean you're not downloading it?
Me n Bambi like them!
My word...I've a good mind to take a birch to the lot of yer...hold me back!
(sigh...I'm holding him back...Ed.)

Titus

Cardiacs
Roadhouse, Manchester
November 5th 1996

Newly remastered show from when the band was stripped down to a foursome:
Tim Smith - guitar and vocals
Jim Smith - bass and backing vocals
Jon Poole - guitar and backing vocals
Bob Leith - drums
So they were using a lot of triggered keyboard parts and sequencers.
I imagine the six piece line-up had been difficult in terms of income.
Good sound quality on this audience capture.
Highly recommended to all you Cardiacs fans out there.
'Is This the Life' never fails to stir great memories
of the Cardiacs gigs I was lucky enough to attend.
Roadhouse is no longer in business which is a shame
as this 200 capacity venue had some history.
Coldplay, Muse and the White Stripes all played Roadhouse in their early days.
Four members of Elbow served behind the bar
and are very possibly working during this recording.
Venue owner Kate Mountain has said that when Elbow were playing at the venue
it produced logistical challenges because it meant she had no staff.

Our castaway here is Steve Davis, yes, the snooker player.
For those who do not know, Steve is an avid music fan.
I believe he once hired Magma, one of his favourite bands,
to play at a private party.
Steve also DJs and presents a radio show called
The Interesting Alternative Show often with Kavus Torabi.
As an extra I have included a link to Steve's
tribute broadcast for the late Tim Smith.

Cardiacs
Whitelands College
London
November 15th 1985

I have great memories of seeing Cardiacs shows in the late 80s/early 90s.
Even back to when they only had self produced cassettes for sale.
They inspired the term Pronk. A mix of prog and punk.
Which I recall band leader Tim Smith was not happy with.
Tim was probably the strangest frontman I ever saw.
He had an unnerving stage persona where he would switch
from nasty aggressive cynic to little boy. Think Hywel Bennett in Twisted Nerve.
This is an early soundboard and pretty good quality.
You may see versions with three extra tracks
but they are poor quality, probably audience recordings
and possibly not even from this gig.
...that's the way we all go

Titus
