As all good Genesis fans should know

this year marks the 50th anniversary of Wind and Wuthering..

The lyrics to 'Blood on the Rooftops' include these words:

"Let's skip the news boy, I'll make some tea

The Arabs and the Jews boy, too much for me

They get me confused boy, puts me off to sleep

And the thing I hate, oh Lord

Is staying up late, to watch some debate on some nation's fate"

So not much progress has been made over the last fifty years then huh?

As if to rub salt into the wound the last line of the song is:

"Seems Helen of Troy has found a new face again"

Oh Lord indeed.

Not the greatest quality but, as always, I tried my best to improve it.

Hats off to the taper, who's efforts 53 year ago to the day, are still much appreciated.

It's just a compilation I made donkey's years ago.

One of my reconstructed/fake concerts with some 'standard' bonus tracks.

The 'Genesis Live' album is brilliant but I don't go back to it much

because it seems so fragmented and short.

They should have made it a triple album!

This, for me, is a much more attractive listening experience.

It has patches and 'you-name-it' applied by many people over the years.

This is from 'The Black Show' tour

which was the last instalment of the 'Selling England by the Pound' era.

They would go on ditch this for 'The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway'.

(a.k.a. Selling America by the Dollar)

Most of the talking is in French.

The intro to 'Firth' would be kicked into the long grass soon after.

Tony's attempt at it here shows why.

I saw them a couple of times in 1980.

I was never really into Duke so I didn't enjoy the gigs much at the time.

It sounds better in retrospect but the instrumental sections from the album

are weak by Genesis standards.

There's no disputing Bill's talent as a drummer

but I'm not convinced he was the best choice for Genesis.

The missing songs are replaced by recordings from two days earlier.

Tony has keyboard issues during the opener.

A quick squirt of WD40  and we're good to go.

The wrong tape is run for the "we will rock you little snake" bridge.

Can anyone identify what is actually played?

Oddly recorded.

The mics are picking up very little crowd noise.

This may be why there is such a difference between the louder/quieter parts

I made some efforts to mitigate this issue

but the ambience is actually quite nice so I didn't go too far.

The stifled Texan mob being unable to disturb proceedings helped.

Hackett plays some strange stuff and sounds, at times,

like he's in a three-way battle for volume dominance with Banks & Rutherford.

It makes for an interesting 'Supper's Ready'

and check out the chaotic 'Quiet Earth'.

From the opening note it bodes ill :)

but the 'Tony Iommi' riff section (as I  call it) rocks!

I don't have the details of the sources

but I think it is mainly from Boston, Lakeside and Liverpool.

It's been through so many reworkings I have lost track of it all.

So not one for purists I guess but it sounds pretty good to my ears

and it gave me the opportunity to include the three different encores

which were played on the Lamb tour.

A pivotal/transitional moment for the band.

The Rainbow had been closed for refurbishment.

Genesis played the first show of a three night residency

starting on new year's day 1977 to herald the reopening.

This was also Chester Thompson's live debut

and the first outing for the Wind and Wuthering material.

The recording we have here is from the third gig.

New drummer/new setlist...it sounds weird for Genesis.

Note the amount of uncharacteristic tuning/checking going on. 

There is some tape fluctuation at times

but it's very interesting for keen fans...like me.

Was Phil going through one of his relationship breakdowns?

BTW workupload has either changed or is currently being weird for me.

certainly in terms of popularity.

The Motown medley in Turn it On Again is very entertaining.

Not the kind of thing I would ever have immagined Tony Banks doing :)

I was reasonably pleased with the remastering.
