Cardiacs
Whitelands College
London
November 15th 1985
I have great memories of seeing Cardiacs shows in the late 80s/early 90s.
Even back to when they only had self produced cassettes for sale.
They inspired the term Pronk. A mix of prog and punk.
Which I recall band leader Tim Smith was not happy with.
Tim was probably the strangest frontman I ever saw.
He had an unnerving stage persona where he would switch
from nasty aggressive cynic to little boy. Think Hywel Bennett in Twisted Nerve.
This is an early soundboard and pretty good quality.
You may see versions with three extra tracks
but they are poor quality, probably audience recordings
and possibly not even from this gig.
...that's the way we all go
regards
Titus

Thanks for this Titus, such a shame about Tim, I was lucky enough to see Cardiacs around the time of this recording (1984 supporting Marillion), and a few times afterwards - always a stunning live band.
ReplyDeleteInteresting...I have read that the tour with Marillion did not go well. The average Marillion fan not appreciating Tim's persona. What are your recollections Bambi?
ReplyDeleteI've listened to this now a few times, great gig and pretty good quality for what sounds like a cassette transfer, thanks a lot Titus.
DeleteYou are welcome. Nice to find a fellow Cardiacs fan
DeleteI saw the gig in Poole (South of England) and a lot of people stayed in the bar - I don't think you could take drinks into concert hall, so when Cardiacs came on I was able to get very near the front. I don't recall people being hostile, but by the time Marillion came on the place was packed.
ReplyDeleteDominic was my mates little brother. Was a right git to him at times.
ReplyDeleteReally? That's interesting
