Hedvig Mollestad
Victoria Nasjonal Jazzscene
Oslo, Norge
January 23rd 2020

Reposted from January 2021

Don't know how many people are familiar with Hedvig Mollestad.
I have listened to her stuff with the Hedvig Mollestad Trio (HM3)
and it is always challenging and sometimes puzzling.
It's a thin line between genius and sounding like you are
a teenage band doing their first jam in a garage.
We shall assume Ms. Mollestad is a genius.
This was a preview of her latest solo album Ekhidna.
The performance is nearly twice as long as the studio version
so although the musical themes are present I decided to stick with calling it
parts 1 to 5 rather than transpose the track titles quoted on the CD.
Hope somebody out there enjoys this as much as I do.
regards
Titus

01 intro (1:03)
02 Part 1 (15:07)
03 Part 2 (11:14)
04 Part 3 (12:07)
05 Part 4 (15:29)
06 Part 5 (15:30)

P.S. I can't ever hear the name Hedvig/Hedwig
without thinking of this classic cult movie:

Hedwig & the Angry Inch (2001)

Very funny with great songs.
The Origin of Love segment gets me every time.
I was first introduced to this by an American ex-girlfiend.
She lived in Beverly Hills and collected feathers.
(which sounds like the title of a 60s folk song)
regards
Titus

  1. Thanks for the Hedwig cult movie, we just had a nice evening watching that movie - I had to buy the DVD with a French audio version on it.

  2. It's always weird to have the songs in English with subtitles and then they start talking with a different voice in French... but that's the way it is when you're not fluent enough or too lazy to read the subtitles all the way long.

  3. I do a lot with subtitles. You can get subs that say "hello" and another for the same movie that say "It's great to see you again" for the same line. Quality varies in terms of expressing the full meaning. My wife asks for Scandinavian stuff with either subs or dubbed in English or German. I get mixed reviews to say the least :)

  5. Thanks for the offer, but no. Just the Mollestad set. (Pino)

  6. I'm sure that's Fee Waybill on that film poster. Just looks like he's singing Mondo Bondage.
