There seems to be an issue with future gigs in Europe for UK artists.
And presumably the other way?
Costs of visas and restrictions on trucking etc. may make touring
ecconomically impossible for bands on a lower income.
It seems the EU may be pushing for a position
where it is viable for Elton John to tour Europe
but impossible for an act such as IQ to tour there.
Difficult to know the truth from the BS.
Any thoughts on this?

Covid-19 has been a distraction away for the huge split in the population over the Brexit issue. If what you've said is correct, it's one of the prices to be paid I guess. There will probably be more.
ReplyDeleteI mentioned Elton John because he has been active re this issue. Fair play to him. He can absorb £20K in extra costs on a Zillion Euro grossing tour but knows that smaller bands can not.
ReplyDeleteIf there is any interest at all among the politicians on both sides of the reinstated border to maintain the idea of a cultural exchange across Europe, common sence says that when overcharging artists for the sake of some relatively minor profits in border fees (and propably more important making a political statement) the losses when all aspects are considered ought to exceed the possible benefits by far. Seems like some stubborn paper pushers are making kind of a prestigious power game of this, or they just don´t understand the issue or even care about the consequenses.

ReplyDeleteUnfortunatly I don't trust the uk government much anymore (for some reason). However if the EU discouraged uk bands from travelling into EU, that would have a very negative financial effect on their entertainment and festival economy - many European festivals have a similar line-up to most uk festivals and feature many uk bands.
ReplyDeleteYou can read the EU response {which was no surprise to me)

Okay, so a blame game instead of a power game... Like you said, no surprise.
ReplyDeleteYeah, couldn't imagine the EU saying "Uk offered a great deal and we turned it down"
