Electric Edwardians
The films of Mitchell & Kenyon
1900-1906

Sagar Mitchell and James Kenyon founded the firm of Mitchell & Kenyon in 1897.
Films taken during the day were shown the same evening
in fairground tents or local meeting halls/music halls
with slogans like "see yourselves as others see you".
Mostly filmed in the north of England but also Birmingham, Glasgow and Befast
and the earliest footage of the then newly formed Manchester United.
(whoever they are LOL)
Amazing footage from over 120 years ago (or two Dereks as I like to call it)
When I watch I am struck by a mixture of awe and an inexplicable melancholy.
Plus ca change. Plus c'est la meme chose.
The more that things change the more they stay the same.
