Wishbone Ash
Capitol Theatre
Passaic, NJ
January 19th 1974

The classic early line up. Another nice SBD.
It's from a double bill with Climax Blues Band.
Peter Haycock and Colin Cooper of CBB
sit in on guitar and sax respectively for the final song.
The 24 minute 'Phoenix' is an epic.
The version on 'Live Dates' clocks in at a paltry 17 minutes :)
I only have this in mp3 format.
There is/was a version over on Soundaboard which didn't have the full set.
The Capitol Theatre opened in 1921 as a "vaudeville house". (sounds saucy!)
It closed it's doors in 1989 and was demolished two years later.
The site is now a shopping mall.
George Orwell would be thrilled.
regards
Titus

  1. ahh, another of my long-gone stomping grounds represented. saw my first ever genesis show there in june 80, before seeing them the next night in the nosebleeds at the Garden. amazing that nobne of these venues got historic status before they became simply real estate. sopeaking of the Garden, tell that to Penn Station....
will check this out Titus, thanks.

  2. ps: diggin' the yankee logo as 'NJ'. was a time when the yanks were considering moving to NJ, and many feared yankee stadium would be razed. it ultimately was but the yanks stayed in the bronx, with new stadium built next door.
    (pps: sorry for typos above!)

  4. Thanks Titus, this is great, sound and performance.

In the uk many great venues have been closed or demolished. The magnificent historic concert hall in my town was in need of major work in the 80's. Instead of doing the work required, our local council demolished it for a car park, and build a boxy (poxy) conference centre, with appalling acoustics. The old theatre had orchestras, and bands playing, such a waste.

    1. Yeah the recent BOC gigs were great. My first time at two iconic venues. Free Trade Hall in Manchester is now a hotel. Shit!

  5. Great quality concert indeed and magnificent version of Phoenix. If permitted, will burn it to double CD and play it LOUD. Of course will be printing the artwork, show it to Mrs Derek for the fun to see her eyes going to the ceiling and telling me "yeah, another LEGO for your collection..."
