Van Halen
Tucson Convention Center
Tucson AZ.
October 2nd 1979

This is from the Van Halen II era, remastered to my taste.
Not the best recording but certainly enjoyable.
A time when the band were still valid IMO.
Everything after 'Women and Children First' left me unmoved.
Eddie is flying on this well known SBD.
I saw them just a few months earlier:

I'm never convinced by Alex's drumming.
His solo spot here has less musical merit than a brick thrown into a cement mixer.
...but hey, he's Ed's brother right?
I think Cozy Powell would have excelled in VH.

  1. yes, never big on alex's drumming either. live in the early 80's he was a showman-clown behind the uber-ridiculous kit.
watching vids of the final roth fronted iteration of the band the kit was still ridiculous but the man appeared bored and his playing was pretty dry and lifeless.
(me i liked them through fair warning (first saw live in 81). 'one foot out the door' pointed a sonic way forward, but instead they followed up with a poppy album with too many covers...and poof!)
    thanks for the show.

    1. Jimmy Pallagrosi (ex-Karnataka.drummer) has a band/project called Zio. I saw him at what was possibly the Zio live debut a few years back. At one point Jimmy wheeled out a kiddy/toy drumkit and played a solo on it. Blew everyone away!
