The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
Hammersmith Odeon, London
May 24th 1975
This concert is the source of the original live album.
Additional songs became available on the 'Teenage Idol' box-set.
I also have an (almost complete) bootleg SBD
with it's own, obviouisly false, running order.
There's a suggested setlist on setlist FM
which has been edited a few times although it is guesswork to a large degree.
I'm not convinced 'Midnight Moses' is in the right place, for instance,
but thought it would be fun to reconstruct as much of the show as I could
and to bring that speculative running order to life.
The bootleg patches are lower quality with noticable hiss.
I tried EQ and/or various noise reductions
which didn't do the bootleg recordings any favours so I left them hissy.
A few brief bits were discarded for technical/aesthetic reasons.
Most notably at the end of 'Gang Bang' where Alex thanked the girls for singing.
This 'mic sharing' had fucked up the mic, as you can hear towards the end of the track.
Alex's words were just broken up bits hence my decision to ditch them.
Many other anomalies were addressed and, hopefully, improved.
No music was lost.
The talk at the very beginning of tracks 5 and 7 sounds the same.
That's rather suspicious but it is there on the soundboard. Weird?!
Various dastardly tricks were employed to make it all flow.
So it's not an acurate historic document.
Think of it as an alternative live album.
It took me hours to do.
I tell myself I enjoy doing these things.
Possibly a form of mental illness? Ha Ha
P.S. back cover with correct year (thanks Derek) :
regards

A complete version of one of my favourite Live Albums ? Waouw, you made my day for sure this Sunday. Downloaded, will burn it to CD, print the covers and as they say somewhere at HRC, PLAY IT LOUD.
ReplyDeleteGreat thanks for all the work involved in this one.
Much appreciated and greetings from Paris,
Just for info, wrong date 1979 on the back cover. I already changed it.
ReplyDeleteyou're right...wonder how that happened
DeleteIt's been playing loud since this morning over & over. Absolutely fantastic.J'adore !!!!
DeleteSo pleased you like it. Original album is great but too short/edited. They cut about 3 mins out of Framed
DeleteWould have never noticed the 3 minutes patch on Framed if you hadn't told me. Incredible how it flows well. Just great.
ReplyDeleteThat is music to my ears! There is a hand clap just over 2 mins into Framed. That is where the album version was patched together, They cut out the "we have a competition" part. I used the clap to help cover the restoration. After the clap you hear the sound change from the bootleg back to the better source
DeleteJust for those who might have missed this one, a reminder for all of the viewers that this reconstruccted concert doesn't get his way to the shelf and remains near the CD player. Not to be missed. Very often played as those albums we listened to days and days back in the seventies.
ReplyDeleteA kind reminder as we say at this office,
