Pan Tau (Czech for "Mr. Tau") is a character created for a children's television series.
There were 33 episodes in 3 series made by Czechoslovak Television (ČST)
in cooperation with Barrandov Studios and the West German TV network
Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR).

Here is the first episode from 1970.
The Frau remembers it fondly from growing up in West Germany.
I wondered if anyone else shared her nostalgia.
This is the original Czech version
but language is not a major issue as most of it is visual.
A bit like watching Mr. Bean or Benny Hill.
It's charming and  weird like 'The Singing Ring Tree'
and is filmed in fabulous, eastern-european, in-your-face, colour.
Czech it out (groan)
regards
Titus

  1. I share the nostalgia, of course, but it is due to the fact that I grew up in Czechoslovakia.

    1. Was it popular? I had never heard of it. Wasn't shown in the UK

    2. Absolutely! Very popular with children and adults alike, feature films and several series have been made. For several generations, this is a completely essential character who comes from a slightly bizarre and dreamlike world.

    3. ...It was so popular that a punk band called "Pank Tau" was formed in the early 1990s. (Pan = Mister, or Sir)
