3 (Emerson, Berry & Palmer)
The Ritz, New York
April 14th 1988
Remastered FM.
I recently finished Chris Welch's book on Keith Emerson.
Worth a read with lots of good pictures
and contributions from family, friends and fellow musicians.
It's not surprising, due to his tragic suicide,
that the book tends towards 'what a nice guy he was'.
Comedian (and I use the term ultra loosely) Jim Davidson was one his best mates.
That tells me a lot.
As a musician, however, Keith was indisputably phenominal.
I didn't like Works and liked Works II even less.
Just the sight of the Love Beach cover made me queasy.
So I gave up on Keith/ELP.
I regretted that in more recent years
as the various line-ups/reunions/Emerson bands etc.
are rather more interesting than I'd given them credit.
So, inspired by the book, I've been delving back into the archives.
Here's something from the short-lived EBP period with Robert Berry
when they went under the name of '3'.
OK, some of Berry's songs are a bit poppy but it's still a good gig.
