Freak Out! The Frank Zappa Story
A Radio 4 broadcast I thought might be of interest to some of you.
Germaine Greer presents a profile of Frank Zappa,
the 1970s icon of eccentric rock
whose range of work included serious orchestral composition, film-making
and social activism, particularly in the field of anti-censorship.
Contributors include Gail Zappa, son Dweezil, guitarist Steve Vai,
family friend and author Peter Occhiogrosso
and David Butcher, chief executive of the Britten Sinfonia.
To my US readers:
There was a time I hoped Frank would become your president
or at least a prominent politician.
It didn't seem implausible following his role in the PMRC hearings.
Alas...t'was not to be.
regards
Titus
thanks titus! yes, zappa for president, when things like that still seemed possible. When many still wanted the president to be the brightest guy in any room.

...instead of a black hole?
ReplyDeletea black hole had to once be a bright star...just sayin'
ReplyDeletefrank nailed it:
"The illusion of freedom will continue as long as it's profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theater."
-Frank Zappa
Trump was born a black hole
ReplyDeleteHi Titus,
ReplyDeletehere's an interesting Zappa related oddity for you, a (bootleg?) compilation of Zappa covers which all contain former members of FZ's solo bands or The Mothers. It's called "Mother People: Zappa Musicians Play Zappa Music For Zappa Fans" & features the likes of Steve Vai, George Duke, Jean Luc Ponty, Jimmy Carl Black, lke Willis, Warren Cuccurullo etc.
