Hello Titus! Thanks for this show!! I posted this on another blog regarding Blur "The teardrop explodes keyboard player David Balfe went on to form Food records and signed Blur. I was brought in to record and mix 4 songs with producer Mike Thorne. Balfe did not want to hire a Yank when he had great engineers in the UK. I flew myself on my own dime. Stayed with a friend in Hampstead Heath for Blur's first album (Leisure). I took a big pay cut but with the exchange rate it wasn't so bad. It was an absolute blast - worked through the biggest snowstorm to hit the UK in 20 years. I would take the tube to the studio everyday where I would meet Damon Albarn on the platform as we switched trains to go to Fulham station. In the evenings we'd hit the pub and the other 3 members along with Mike Thorne where we would watch these youngsters drink us under the table! Black Taxi home, rinse and repeat! My 4 songs on the album are the ones that don't sound like Stephen Street's. Mine were all smash and thrash live in the studio not a drum machine or sample in them. Barely a credit on the album. UK Music Union would not have that. It was worth it! The experience led to working with Bauhaus, Peter Murphy, Jane's Addiction and the Ramones...all later on and it was all because of that 2 weeks in London with Blur and the many connections I made. One of the few times where I gambled on a band and it payed off!
