Thought for the day:
Video emerges of the Government doing wrong.
In court they argue the footage is fake AI.
The judge agrees...case dismissed.
The Government doesn't like you for some reason.
They produce a video showing you are an arsonist.
In court you argue the footage is fake AI.
The judge disagrees...you're going to prison.

We are living in very dangerous times, and it's astounding how many people are happily oblivious to this fact. I used to say that those who fail to learn from History have to take it again next semester, but that joke is wearing pretty thin right now...
ReplyDeleteFacts have become opinions. It's all about "feelings" now. Note how often media and politicians say "people feel..."
DeleteDon't worry about it gentlemen, we're fucked and always have been.
ReplyDeleteThe recent cases of Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel are worrying. USA is not what I grew up with anymore. I fear UK/Europe may follow suit. Maybe we're a bit more fucked than usual Sir Billy
DeleteThe USA that you and I grew up with was a more liberal society in some ways. But don't forget the McCarthy years, segregation and the KKK having big parades in Washington DC in the 20.s. In the thirties there were pro Nazi summer camps for young children. This is the America the MAGA people want (they really mean Make America White Again). Nice picture of Woody, but people like him were voices in the wilderness. We have Farage, a lying bullshitting toad who couldn't find his own arse with a map donated by his hero Trump. The great unwashed love him because they are stupid and easy to manipulate. Amen
ReplyDeleteAll valid ponints, but 20s & 30s are not in my lifetime (how bloody old are you Sir Billy?) :) I don't think Nixon's Watergate would even register for Trump. That's what has changed.
ReplyDeleteThe 20s and 30s are not within my lifespan either, but there are things called books and documentary films which highlight there issues. If the US courts had had the bottle they would have taken Trump to court for the Georgia state interference he tried to make to an election official "find me some more votes", it's on tape , I have heard it you may also have heard it. The proverbial smoking gun, but they didn't because they did not want to make him a martyr with the American Taliban and quite probably start a new civil war. At least with Nixon he had the dignity to resign. Trump would have to be dragged out of the Oval Office in chains.
ReplyDeleteIn 1997 I was stupidly amazed to see people in New York not allowed to smoke anymore in their office...10 years later, it was the same all over old Europe. Since the end of WWII, we are mimicking what is happening on the other side of the Atlantic ocean, good or bad. McDonald's, Coca-Cola or Ticketmaster. What happens nowadays in the USA will irrevocably arrive in UK/Continental Europe. See what happens already in Hungary. Beware !
