Alice (Něco z Alenky) 1988
By far my favourite film adaption of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
A Czech production written and directed by Jan Švankmajer.
It isn't particularly faithful to the book but it captures the darkness perfectly.
I have included optional subtitles in Arabic, English, French, Greek and Spanish.

Titus

Thanks Titus I've not seen this in a long time, I love Jan Švankmajers strange worlds. A highly recommended film.
ReplyDeleteGave this a watch last night, first time I'd seen It. It's an odd one for sure, but I suppose the entire original book(s) were & still are odd. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of those two Lewis Carroll books, I always enjoyed my own vibe, perceptions and Imaginings of his creations rather than when I read the books or watch any of the TV/Movie adaptions. I do prefer Jonathan Miller's version of the story though, but this Czech version is good too! The White Rabbit is pretty sinister in both films, with the Czech one being particularly disturbing! Great stuff!
ReplyDeleteI like the Miiler version too.
