The Lost Will of Dr. Rant (1951)
'The Lost Will of Dr. Rant' is an episode of the NBC supernatural series 'Lights Out'.
Other than this I know nothing about 'Lights Out'.
Adapted from M.R. James's story 'The Tractate Middoth', it stars a young Leslie Nielsen.
Always difficult to take Leslie's 'serious acting'...erm...seriously
but he was in some good stuff including the sci-fi classic 'Forbidden Planet'
before diving into the algae-ridden refecting pool of 'taking-everything-literally' comedy.
This is notable to M.R. James afficionados for being the first ever TV adaptation.
It's a bare bones telling of the plot-line with little or no attempt
to convey any of the atmosphere that made M.R. James a giant of the genre.
To be fair it's only short and I believe these programs were basically filmed live
with little or no time/money for re-takes pre editing.
I remastered the audio as it was far too quiet.
BTW I'm always open to requests/suggestions for old film or TV.

Hola Titus, mi sugerencia es "El Sirviente" ( 1963 - Joseph Losey), con una actuación sobresaliente de Dirk Bogarde, un film que ví a los 19 años en un cine que solo exhibían películas de calidad.

1) Ese sirviente, con poder de manipulación mental, genética, ambiental... qué lugar ocuparía entre los poderosos que manejan el mundo y los seres que aún viven en él?
2) Los mecanismos de una mente así pueden encontrarse muy cerca nuestro, un vecino, un familiar, un amigo... ya a la vista o esperando la ocasión propicia para manifestarse. Seremos capaces de identificarlo?
Reflexiones demasiado serias para un sábado de Mundial de Futball, no?

Hi Titus, my suggestion is *The Servant* (1963 – Joseph Losey), featuring an outstanding performance by Dirk Bogarde; it’s a film I saw when I was 19 at a cinema that screened only high-quality movies.
It left me pondering two intriguing questions:
1) Where would that servant—with power of mental, genetic, and environmental manipulation—fit in among the powerful figures who run the world and the ordinary people living in it?
2) The mechanisms of such a mind might be found very close to us—in a neighbor, our own family, or a friend—either already visible or waiting for the right moment to reveal themselves. Would we be able to spot it?
Perhaps these are overly serious reflections for a Saturday during the World Cup, don't you think?
