The World Cup referee from Somalia who was denied entry to the US
arrived on Wednesday in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu,
where he was received by a crowd of supporters and officials.
Omar Artan was due to be the first referee from Somalia to officiate
at a World Cup after making Fifa’s final list for the tournament.
He is one of Africa’s top referees
and was named the continent’s best male referee in 2025.
We're not supposed to feel sorry for the bloody referees!
Go Go USA :)
Other innovations will include extended half times (with Ads)
and mid-half "hydration breaks" (with Ads)
Fair enough in hot conditions but some venues
are not in particularly hot places and many are covered arenas.
Also in the news...
Last week, dozens of Scots said their electronic system for travel authorisation (Esta)
was unexpectedly changed from “approved” to “travel not authorised”
with no explanation.
(Would have thought that one was obvious...just kidding!)
Seriously though, this is not a good start.

Titus

This is the USA under trump, No surprise there then.

I'll agree with Mr Anonymous on that issue. What I think is even worse is that FIFA under Infantile withdrew his accreditation. Why couldn't FIFA re-schedule him to officiate in games in Mexico or Canada, I feel sure someone would have swapped.
ReplyDeleteWhat was nice was his comments after this fiasco, no malice just disappointment, a real gentleman.
Spot on Sir Billy,

Does the word 'host' mean something different in the USA?
...asking for a friend.
Ian Wright made a good post about this topic.
My apologies to Psyche48, missed that (rented eyes). I think "host" in the USA actually means "heist" judging by the ticket prices.
