Whistle and I'll Come to You (1968)
This adaptation of the M.R. James ghost story
was written and directed by Jonathan Miller.
The excellent Michael Hordern turns mumbling and eating into a captivating performance.
Deliciously understated.
The apparition on the beach was achieved with a ragged cloth suspended on a wire.
Possibly the most convincing cinematic ghost I've ever seen.
It's genuinely unnerving.
