Yes
Great Imagination
Spodek Hall
Katowice, Poland
March 27th 1998

This is a really good show.
I very much liked this period of Yes with Billy Sherwood
in the band. Open Your Eyes is a great album which seems
sadly overlooked. Man in the Moon is a wonderful Sherwood song
but I am not aware of Yes ever playing it live.
Jon mentions it is being broadcast so I guess
that is the source although there are no radio
jingles or DJ talk. Some unmatching audience parts
suggest these may have been removed.
The version of Whitefish is the highlight for me.
Chris is in mean form.
Keyboardist Igor Khoroshev also deserves a mention.
He is excellent throughout although his tenure with Yes
ended in rather 'unfortunate' circumstances.
This from his wiki page:
Khoroshev left Yes after their Masterworks Tour following
an incident involving two female security guards
on that tour. Khoroshev was charged with assault and battery
and sexual battery although the matter was later settled out of court.
I did some work on From the Balcony/Jon's chat just before
as it had terrible noise which irritated me especially
through headphones. It may have suffered slightly soundwise
but I prefer it this way. I also redid the Firebird Suite intro
as one channel was not great. Just copied the good channel
and made a duel mono out of it then reduced it's volume a bit
so it matched the level of Siberian Khatru.
regards
Titus

  1. I have a double CD version of this show somewhere and need to check if it had the same sound problems as the ones you mention. I remember there a two excellent soundboard concerts from Yes in Poland during that tour.
