Budgie
Bingley Hall, Birmingham
December 15th 1979

I plucked this CD off the shelf after hearing
the sad news that band leader Burke Shelley
died a couple of days ago aged 71.

This was guitarist John Thomas' first gig
and he does a good job although his guitar volume
is up and down like a bride's nightie.
Seems like a compression issue
plus he may be overdoing a volume pedal.
Hats off to him though for stepping into the shoes of Tony Bourge.
A formidable challenge!
Anyway, not the greatest recording but then not the worst.

Goodbye Burke and thanks for the great music.
regards
Titus

  1. Sad news, I first heard Budgie on the album Power Supply and really liked it.
I think they were a band much appreciated by their pairs and maybe not that much by the public.

    1. We are not the first to wonder how they didn't become better known/successful

  2. Sad news indeed and mostly ashamed, I went, long time ago, to a festival where Slade and Sweet were the big attraction and when almost everyone had left, they let Budgie play. I was one stupid of the everyone. Discovered afterwards how Budgie was essential music ! Ashamed I am.
