Carl Palmer - ELP Legacy
HRH Prog XI
O2 Academy, Sheffield
April 2nd 2022

This was the third time I'd seen Carl's ELP Legacy.
The drums are loud and upfront as you'd expect.
In case you don't know, the line up is:
Carl Palmer - drums & vocals
Paul Bielatowicz - guitar & vocals
Simon Fitzpatrick - bass & Chapman stick
Paul has been saddled with the vocals
at which he is enthusiastic but perhaps not the greatest.
His interpretations of Keith Emerson's keyboard parts
for guitar are, however, quite stunning to watch.
Not that much singing on ELP stuff which is an issue.
I know they had Arthur Brown as guest vocalist at one point.
I haven't heard that incarnation but having seen Arthur
front Hawkwind in recent times I doubt it went smoothly.
The sound and the band improve after the first song.
You'd have thought they'd have chosen an easier opener to warm up,
but then easy ones are few and far between when it comes to ELP.
'Tarkus' was the highlight for me.
They really hit their stride on that one.
regards
Titus

  1. Hell yeah, must have been something to see ELP Legacy. Never had the chance to see whatever composition of ELP. I will have to wait for some tribute band around the suburbs of Paris, if that might exist some time.

    1. Hi Derek. Think Carl is playing in Belgium soon...only down the road from you LOL. That tribute band will need a very good drummer!
