Sweet
Eissporthalle
Berlin
May 16th 1976
Sweet always had a split personality..
Their inner rock band contrasting with a string
of poppy hits composed by Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman.
The band, allegedly, only providing vocals on those songs.
Their high pitched harmonies are often cited
as the template for the early Queen sound.
This 1976 soundboard recording is pretty good
with not a Poppa Joe, Little Willy or Wig-Wam Bam in sight.

Yet another fine post, thanks a lot Titus :-). Amazing how you keep digging up rarities like this.
ReplyDeleteMust be something like my all-time favourite band as I'm still coming back to them since my twelve years old and that's a long time away. Still always a pleasure to listen to the harmonies and AS's guitar licks. Never really get tired of putting on a CD, an LP or a 45T. The Sweet's been accompanying my life without interruption. You always feel like a kid when their songs are played. The foxy fox on the ruuuuuunnnnnn... Yeah
ReplyDeleteMy wife is really fond of them. She says they were very big in Germany
DeleteThey were as big as Mud (Tigerfeet, Dynamite, etc.) in those times in the Flanders (Belgium). Just to give you an idea. They were the number one or two band in the land. Good times these were :)
ReplyDeleteThat's neat, that's neat LOL Ian Gillan was almost a member of Sweet. Intersting if you read their wiki
