Wild Willy Barrett & Stephen Two-Names
Organic Bondage 1986

The first 100 copies of this album came in plywood sleeves.
Each was hand crafted by Willy himself.
I was lucky enough to own one. (I was first in a queue of one)

The drums are just wood hitting wood.
WWB likes wood a lot and has produced some cool stuff:

Willy is a fine guitarist who does not get the cred he deserves
partly due to his 'wacky' persona/time with John Otway.
In a more 'serious' setting I think he could have been
rubbing shoulders with, say, Robin Trower or Gary Moore in terms of reputation.
It was the era of Paul Hardcastle and Barrett incorporates
the 'n-n-n-n 19' style into the tracks...but...he actually DOES it :)
there is no sampling involved.
Only the Good Die Young is my favourite song.
(I find the lyrics very poignant)
The reference to Koo Stark really dates it but always makes me smile
...and feel sad for some reason.
A version of the song Dream in Colour was used in an advert
for Harmony Hair products but I can't find much info about that.
I wonder if Willy and co-writer Eddie Stanton got paid?
...or were THEY ripping off the advert?
BTW this combo with the mysterious Stephen Two-Names
didn't last long as Stephen wanted real drums
and , as far as Willy was concerned, that went against the grain.
(he made that last bit up to squeeze in a cheap joke...Ed.)
regards
Titus

  1. this looks very interesting titus, thank you. as a drummer i always enjoy hearing non-drum drum performances. stephen could have found a happy home on several tom waits albums with that sound. looking forward to digging in, intrigued by quick sampling.
thanks and congrats on graduating to retirement and taking it up a notch freeing yourself of a car. even little greta v. can't say that!
    cheers, mikeL

    1. Are you familiar with Hasse Bruniusson's work Mike? He is a fav drummer of mine. He played a solo spot at the TFK days event last week. It was stunning. He is 69 now. Only about 20 people stayed to watch it. Roine Stolt and his misses were next to us and Roine took some pictures. Hope he posts them online.
