Texas International Pop Festival
Dallas International Motor Speedway
Lewisville, Texas
August 30th - September 1st 1969
Vol. 4
Rotary Connection (August 30th)
Remastered soundboard.
Rotary Connection were created by Marshall Chess.
The son of, Chess Records founder, Leonard Chess.
Chess receptionist, the superb, Minnie Riperton was recruited
and, as you probably know, she went on to have a successful solo career.
Sadly she was diagnosed with breast cancer in the mid 70s
and died in July 1979 aged just 31.
Members of the band also recorded with Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf
on their albums Electric Mud (1968) and The Howlin' Wolf Album (1969).
They are obviously talented and versatile musicians.
This fest was only six weeks after Woodstock
and psychedelia is in vogue...right?
So how come when Minnie gives the crowd a choice
they plump for blues over that "psychedelic shit"?
Just a Texas thing maybe?
