KISS
Budokan
Tokyo, Japan
April 2nd 1977
DVD
This is old footage from a HBO TV broadcast.
I have remastered the audio.
The painted fourpiece at their best.
It's not the full show but we get a decent selection
including Pete's drum solo, Gene on bass n blood
and Ace Frehley's Spinal Tap "trademark" guitar solo.
As you probably know Ace died earlier this month.
He was an iconic guitar hero.
Goodbye Spaceman.
BTW I've had these KISS Destroyer model kits for years.
Never been opened and still in their original cellophane wrap.
I assume there's an element of assembly required.
What the hell have I got them for? LOL

I understand Kiss were experts in marketing whatsoever to their loyal fan base. Me too I bought some nonsense like this and still have somewhere a silly t-shirt of the psycho circus tour I never dared to wear.
ReplyDeleteTry the Criscuola album with an open mind. A different side of the band,
DeleteThis band made up my childhood. From a kid in Queens NY seeing them on a weekday afternoon chat show to a few years later as a High School junior taking my little cousins to see them in Florida with Uriah Heep opening December 1976. Rock and Roll Over Tour. Ace was the glue holding this band together. Nice interview with the spaceman here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nldcx8Pg2Y8 Thank you for the show!
ReplyDeleteA lot of people seem to view them with disdain due to their commercial/merch approach. I think they also made some great records.
DeleteNever was really interested in Kiss. I was probably badly influenced by the numerous plays of "I was made...' on the radio back then. Had I been introduced to their music with "Detroit Rock City", "Shout It Out Loud" or "Is That You?" things would have been different I suppose...
ReplyDeleteAgain I recommend the Criscuola compilation. A lot of It sounds like Bob Seger or South Side Johnny to me. Pete was the best singer IMO with a more rock n roll feel
DeleteTitus, can't seem to find that Criscuola compilation. Is it part of Criss's solo career?
DeleteOnly available on TLD
DeleteOk, thanks.
