Al Di Meola
El Mocambo
Toronto, Canada
June 17th 1977
Remastered FM.
Not the best quality but well worth a listen.
Al's guitar has a rough edge that I rather like.
His machine-gun/pluck-every-note style
was another influence on the young Titus.
The contrast between that and B.B. King's
play-as-little-as-possible/make-it-cry approach fascinated me.
Both are brilliant/vive la difference.
Spot the Page/Clapton riffs in Spanish Highway :)
As it's recorded in Canada I'll dedicate this one to Mark Carney.
P.S. You know how gig finales often end with the big chord?
Metal bands can drag it out for minutes!
This recording ends with an almost bashful "ploop"
which is really funny and strangely endearing.
