Progglådan Box D: Melodisk Rock
CD 401
Blå Tåget/Kjell Höglund
The fourth and final box promises melodic rock.
I wouldn't have described this first CD as melodic rock.
Blå Tåget are OK. Reminds me of Kevin Ayers a bit.
Kjell Höglu's music is simple acoustic guitar strumming.
I can only assume the lyrics must be brilliant! :)
Blå Tåget (lit. The Blue Train) is a Swedish progg-band
who formerly went under the name Gunder Hägg, (a legendary Swedish runner)
but after conflicts occurred they changed to Blå Tåget
(which was a ride at the amusement park Gröna Lund) in 1972.
Their lyrics (mostly written by Bengtsson, Rasmusson, Berger and Nylén)
cover a wide range, from marxist analysis and invitations to revolution
to satire, art criticism, 1940s childhood nostalgia,
images from daily life and experimental pop art works.
A recurring theme, at least in their early works,
is criticism of Saltsjöbadsandan; the Swedish model
of mixing capitalism with socialism through cooperation
rather than conflict between government, large corporations and unions.
One song on this theme, 'Den ena handen vet vad den andra gör',
was covered by punk band Ebba Grön (renamed 'Staten och kapitalet')
with some of the lyrics omitted) and it became a hit in 1980.
It remains Blå Tåget's best known song.
Kjell Höglund (born December 8th 1945 in Östersund, Sweden)
is a Swedish singer-songwriter.
Höglund, who found his musical breakthrough in the 1970s, is renowned
for the mixture of realism, absurdism and surrealism in his lyrics.
In 1992 he was nominated for a Grammis award for best male pop.
Kjell Höglund has also published books
with esoteric and pseudo-scientific content.
Many of Höglund's beliefs represented in these works
are similar to those of the Danish new age mystic Martinus.
