Progglådan Box A: Tung Rock & Blues CD103
Motvind
1977

Motvind is a Swedish rock group from Gothenburg.
Although linked to the progressive scene
the band was critical of the prog movement, which they called
"a fuzzy sect with too many theories and tea drinking on the agenda".
This meant that large parts of the prog fraternity disliked them.
I certainly wouldn't describe them as prog anyway
and they're in the Rock & Blues section of the box-set.
regards
Titus

  1. Thanks a lot for posting this rare gem, Titus, i fondly remember when they gave a just as rollicking show as these samples at my school in the late 70s. They had released their album "Snacka går ju" (translates into something like "Talk is cheap") and they totally took over the gym hall that was the make-shift stage where us kids was told to sit on the floor at a distance for reasons only the teachers knew, although there was an adjacent grandstand. Well, the singer Juris Salmins asked us to move as close as possible to the band ("- What you´re all doin´ back there, you all got glue in your pants?" :-D) so it got at least some of a rock club feeling. Shame how this band got overlooked and neglected by the swedish prog music movement (who they referred to at the time as being mostly into drinking tea and chewing theses, i can fully relate to that...) as well as the commercial music industry, no doubt as they clashed with most of the expectations of both at the time, playing hard blues based rock with angry and very well-written lyrics focusing on social problems of the young and the environment surrounding with crime and poverty that makes the songs timeless, unfortunately. Being some of the constant underdogs of the swedish music scene it´s always been hard to keep track of them but i´m glad to see that they seem to still be active off and on. Truly on of the best swedish rock bands ever when they get their s*** in the right gear. Here´s a wiki, try running it through some auto-translation: https://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motvind For those interested in similarly oriented swedish acts from the era and on, i recommend looking out for Rolf Wikströms Hjärtslag (also his solo works) and Nationalteaterns Rockorkester (r.i.p. singer Ulf Dageby who tragically passed away recently while the band was planning what was to be a comeback tour). Youtube is your friend.
